Sneaky Attack on Christian Schools

The Australian Labor Government is moving to grant special tax-deductible donation status (DGR) to Equality Australia through the Treasury Laws Amendment (Supporting Choice in Superannuation and Other Measures) Bill 2025.
This bill has already passed the House of Representatives and is currently being reviewed by the Senate.
The Senate Committee is due to report on March 4.
The bill, if passed, would mean:
a) An unfair and unjust advantage in fundraising for one political advocacy group until 2030, and
b) A direct disadvantage to other political advocacy groups campaigning for rights for Christian parents, and
c) An underhanded attack by the Australian government against all faith-based schools in Australia.
Why This Matters for Christian Schools
Equality Australia has campaigned against Christian schools for years, actively working to remove the legal protections that allow our schools to operate according to Christian values and employ staff who share our faith.
With tax-deductible status, they will have significantly more funding to intensify their campaign against our schools and religious freedoms.
The Concerning Background
- Equality Australia previously failed to obtain charitable status through proper channels, being rejected by the ACNC, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and Full Federal Court
- Media reports suggest Equality Australia may have been channelling donations through other entities to obtain tax benefits while their applications were rejected
- This is clearly a political lobby group, as is clear from their Strategic Plan.
