Protecting parental choice and Christian schools in WA

Christian schools rely on a distinctive foundation of faith to provide a holistic community for students.
This freedom has remained under threat from Recommendation 79 of the WA Law Reform Commission report, prepared in 2021, and this is a proposal that the WA Labor Government has not directly rejected.
This proposal would allow external tribunals to determine which jobs in a Christian school are “religious enough” to require aligned beliefs, stripping schools of their ability to hire staff who share their faith.
This old proposal has been pushed again this year by Legalise Cannabis MLC Brian Walker.
His new legislative proposals directly threaten the right of any religious educational institution to hire religiously-aligned staff and teach a religiously-affirming curriculum, whether in a school or theological higher education institution.
Research shows that 74% of parents choosing Christian schools do so specifically because of this value alignment.
Parents make significant sacrifices to secure an education that reinforces their family’s worldview.
We need you to take action to help protect the holistic communities that parents choose for their children.
